The Alishan Mountains
阿里山 are located in the central-southern part of the island. Its highest peak, Datashan (大塔山), reaches 2,663 m above sea level. The name of this mountain range likely comes from the word "Alit," which in several Taiwanese indigenous languages means "ancient mountain."
