Pixiu with a Ball

Pixiu (貔貅) [píxiū], also known as Pi Yao, was originally called Bi Xie (辟邪), literally meaning “to ward off evil spirits.” It is a Chinese mythological hybrid creature considered a powerful protective symbol in Feng Shui. Its appearance resembles that of a winged lion. Pixiu can be either land-dwelling or sea-dwelling. According to traditional belief, it has an insatiable appetite for gold and silver only. For this reason, it has long been regarded in Chinese culture as an auspicious creature with the mystical ability to attract Cai Qi (wealth energy) from all directions. Therefore, Pixiu is considered especially beneficial for those experiencing an unfavorable year according to the Chinese zodiac.
