Tai Ping Hou Kui Ji Pin

SKU: E525
Exclusive leaf quality, careful handpicking, and fully manual processing provide an exceptional experience. This is the traditional version of the “Monkey King” tea, made from the original, naturally reproducing tea plant. The tea leaves are darker and much firmer. Thanks to the high content of fine leaf hairs, known as trichomes, the tea has a more pronounced sweetness than other varieties. It is characterized by greater stamina, a longer and more delicate aftertaste, and higher stimulating effects. Learn more

“Monkey Chief of Tai Ping.” Teas of a similar shape—with sharp, pointed, large leaves—have been produced in the Tai Ping region since the 12th century. In the 19th century, during the Qing dynasty, a tea grower cultivated a new variety and named it “Hou Kui – Monkey Chief.” The tea has flat, fairly large leaves of bright green color with red veins and a hairy inner surface. As one of the few green teas, it exhibits an orchid-like character in both taste and aroma. The infusion has a slightly milky consistency and a delicate flavor, with an orchid-scented aftertaste. This tea, rightly counted among the ten most famous Chinese green teas, can help relax after physical exertion, stimulate the nervous system, and provide gentle tonification.
