According to legend, the tea variety was first cultivated by a Buddhist monk known as Wu Li Zen. After attaining enlightenment and nirvana, locals began referring to this green tea as “Xian Cha,” meaning the “Tea of the Immortals.”

Authentic Meng Ding tea is considered to be only that which is harvested from leaves picked on the mist-covered peaks of Mount Meng Ding, where the tea develops its unique quality, refinement, and historical significance.

This tea belongs to the category of Ming Qian Cha (明前茶), the most prized early spring harvest, collected from the first tender leaves before the Qingming Festival (清明) in early April. These teas capture the purest essence of spring energy.
