The Mengku tea region, located in Yunnan's Shuangjiang County, is widely recognized as one of the original cradles of tea. Standing at altitudes above one thousand meters, the local Daxueshan ("Great Snowy Mountain") massif shelters the most extensive ancient wild tea tree forest in China, with a history spanning over 2,000 years. This unique shu Pu’er owes its profound character to these exceptional natural conditions—a subtropical mountain climate enveloped in year-round mists and fertile, mineral-rich yellow-brown soil. The extraordinary nature of this origin is further validated by the inclusion of this local tea in the official EU-China Geographical Indications Agreement.

The foundation of this mature shu Pu’er lies in the meticulous hand-picking that takes place between late March and early April, when growers harvest exclusively fresh spring shoots adhering to the strict standard of one bud and two to three leaves. Following traditional processing methods and masterfully guided fermentation, the tea retains a remarkably high level of purity. Once steeped, the spent leaves remain soft, elastic, and evenly dark brown, displaying a distinct and clear structure.

The subsequent tea tasting offers a deep, pristine sensory experience. The liquor yields a bright, transparent, deep ruby-to-amber infusion featuring a pronounced golden ring along the rim of the cup—a signature trait of clean, well-aged shu Pu’er. Pouring boiling water releases a gentle, warming aged aroma where elegant woody notes blend with a subtle herbal undertone and caramel sweetness, entirely free from any musty or unpleasant earthy traces. As the empty cup cools, it continues to release a sweet fragrance reminiscent of sticky rice.

On the palate, the tea stands out for its extraordinary softness and thick, smooth texture that evokes the creaminess of rice congee. This well-rounded, comforting Pu’er easily delivers over 15 infusions, with each subsequent steep revealing an even sweeter profile. Leaving a pleasant, warming sensation in the stomach, it serves as the ideal companion after a meal or for peaceful, cool evenings.
