Xiao Ye Shou Mei is a white tea produced using traditional methods – the leaves are first naturally withered in the sun and then carefully dried. The leaves come from a small-tree, naturally occurring variety of tea plant growing wild in a nearly inaccessible area of Hubei Province. Thanks to this gentle processing, the leaves retain their original shape and glossy, multicolored appearance. The tea is distinguished by a delicate floral aroma, a clear infusion with a light almond hue, and a refreshing, pleasantly sweet taste accompanied by a long-lasting aftertaste. Its preparation is versatile – suitable for classic steeping, multiple infusion methods, or even boiling.
The term “Xiao Ye” in this case does not refer to the size of the leaves but to the location of their harvest. It denotes a semi-wild, hard-to-reach area where original, wild-growing tea varieties are found, Shennongjia National Forest Park.
