Yue Guang Bai "White Moonlight"

SKU: D434
“White Moonlight” — often incorrectly referred to as “white pu-erh” — is in fact a specially processed green (sheng) pu-erh. After harvesting, the leaves are allowed to wither at night rather than in the sun, as is customary for maocha. A high proportion of large, softly hairy tips with a matte silvery sheen gives the tea its highly attractive appearance. The liquor is yellowish in color and carries a predominantly herbal aroma with a hint of fruit. The taste is naturally sweet and very complex, developing with each successive infusion; only gradually do touches of astringency and the invigorating, pronounced character typical of green (sheng) pu-erh begin to emerge. A tea specialty with a fairly long history. Thanks to its unique production process (withering and processing carried out at night), the leaves develop a striking contrast of colors. The tips and the upper surface of the leaves are velvety soft and creamy white, while the underside is dark to almost black—the white side represents day, and the dark side night.

Legend has it that in ancient times, the girls chosen to harvest the leaves for this tea were bathed and carefully tended for three days beforehand, and then, by moonlight, they meticulously picked only the finest buds and leaves destined for the production of this beautiful tea. Hence its name, “Moonlight Beauty” / Yue Guang Mei Ren 月光美人.

How to prepare?

First rinse the leaves with hot water, then proceed with brewing.
